About Us
Cultivation, Creativity, and Culture—Our Journey
Splinter Africa is more than just a brand; it’s the culmination of decades of dreams, creativity, and the pursuit of freedom. As a Venezuelan raised in the 90s, cannabis was always part of my culture. Yet, access to the plant was limited, and cultivation seemed out of reach. For 20 years, I dreamt of growing cannabis outdoors. That dream finally became a reality when I arrived in South Africa in 2018, just as President Cyril Ramaphosa legalized cannabis cultivation for personal use.
Splinter was born from this newfound freedom and the culture I grew up in—connecting to iconic phenotypes like Punto Rojo, Colombian Gold, Acapulco Gold, and local South African strains such as Durban Poison and Cape Bud. One of my own varieties, Purple Girl, has been perfected over the last five years, becoming a signature part of our journey.
Sharing Knowledge & Growing Together
In the early days, there was no budget for fancy seeds, substrates, or fertilizers. Instead, I started with seeds found in my mother-in-law’s drawer and recycled materials from our home. This process has taught me the importance of creating your own substrate—turning sand into five-star soil that can nurture giant plants.
Now, after years of learning and growing, I want to share this knowledge with others who might be starting their cultivation journey. Check out our Chronicles section for detailed guides, tips, and personal experiences that will help you cultivate like a pro. Whether you’re starting with humble resources or aiming to grow huge harvests, the tools and insights are here for you.

The Creative Spark:
From Cultivation to Art
As my journey unfolded, I began documenting it through photography, and two years in, I discovered the art of macro photography. Capturing the beauty of the micro-environment in my garden, from caterpillar colors to intricate plant patterns, became a new way of expressing the creativity that cultivation had sparked in me.
The environment around my crops evolved into a diverse, biodiverse space. This diversity inspired me to create a line of clothing—T-shirts, hoodies, and beanies—that reflect the essence of the outdoor grower. Check out our Green Shack and support our brand that’s 100% based on grower-vibe items.
We grow under the sun, and our plants sleep under the moonlight. This cultivation requires organic material produced at home with no profit motive
From Earth to Street:
The Splinter Collections
Splinter Africa isn’t just about cultivation; it’s a celebration of everything that defines a life well-lived outdoors. Our clothing lines are a tribute to the surf breaks we ride, the graffiti that inspires us, the skate culture that shaped us, and the plants we grow. Every design reflects freedom, creativity, and the fusion of nature, art, and street culture.
Our collections are a statement—about who you are, where you come from, and where you’re headed. Wear it With Pride

Cape Bud
Farms Initiative:
Our cultivation journey began five years ago in the backyard of my home in Cape Town, South Africa, with a handful of seeds from my mother-in-law’s house and some wild landrace seeds collected from the region. Cape Bud is a symbol of this journey, showcasing pure landrace genetics, like the long-flowering F6 sativa. With nearly three months of flowering time, F6 develops elongated, fox-tailed buds with tropical fruit aromas.
Another key strain from our farm is Purple Girl, a local favorite with two distinct phenotypes: one that flowers faster and leans towards indica, and another with a classic “indoor look” and shorter flowering times. We discuss these phenotypes and more in our Cultivation Projects, where we invite you to grow, learn, and harvest alongside us.

Splinter Projects
The Roots of Community
Splinter Projects are the many branches of our brand, reflecting our commitment to outdoor life, creativity, and the bond between community and culture. These projects go beyond clothing—they’re about building a sense of belonging, pride, and shared knowledge within communities. From localized content on cultivation techniques to creating new segments in local markets, our projects aim to uplift and empower.
In 2024, we’re focusing on Splinter Surf/Skate, a clothing collection designed to unite surf and skate communities across South Africa. Our goal is to celebrate each community’s identity, while also providing surf reports, healthy lifestyle products, and more.
